NOSS MAYO & NEWTON FERRERS

It is difficult to adequately describe the unique beauty of the Yealm Estuary. Hopefully the photographs below will convey a little of the charm of Noss Mayo, Newton Ferrers and the surrounding villages that await the visitor.

BOATING

The Yealm is a haven for boating of all types. Local boat hire is available or you may prefer to take a boat trip or fishing trip, both available locally.

For local BOAT HIRE please contact Phil Carter on 01752-872189 but not during the day - he is afloat then !!!

THE CREEK, NOSS MAYO

River swimming in the Yealm is safe although the outgoing tide is quite fast midstream. The smaller Noss Creek, with Pope's Quay is very popular, as are Old Cellars Beach and Stoke Beach.

WALKING & FISHING

The Newton Ferrers and Noss Mayo area is great for walking. Visit this website for information on walking routes.

If you are interested in fishing, please visit this website for information on fishing.

OTHER ATTRACTIONS

The small town of Ermington features a church with a strange, crooked spire.

For an unusual view of Devon, Airtopia offer hot air balloon rides (Tel: 01364 73969, Email: info@airtopia.co.uk - please mention Yealm Holidays' holiday cottages' website when you email!)

PLYMOUTH & THE BARBICAN

Plymouth is one of the major cities of the South West of England and is certainly the most historical. The city has played a part in England's history throughout time and is famous for Sir Francis Drake, The Pilgrim Fathers and has always been of great naval importance to the country.

The Barbican (view map) in particular has been the focal point of much historic activity and remains a busy fishing harbour with a thriving fresh fish market. Many individual shops and bistros can be found in the locality.

The Barbican, Plymouth

A popular place for locals and tourists alike, with the colourful fleet of fishing boats arriving with their catch in the mornings.

Barbican, Plymouth

Typical cobbled street

An alternative quieter view of a typical cobbled street in the Barbican area. The public house 'The Robin Hood' on this street corner serves local ales and food to whet your appetite before exploring further afield. Notice the narrow streets and old buildings.
